WCEI Queensland Australian Women Artists Exhibition – Philip Bacon Galleries – March 2018
An exclusive WCEI preview of the Australian Women Artists’ exhibition at Philip Bacon Galleries was an outstanding success last Wednesday night.
Over 100 members and their guests were treated to a special opportunity to hear from Philip Bacon AM, Gallery Owner and celebrated Australian Patron of the Arts. Philip spoke thoughtfully about the exceptional collection of Australian Women Artists’ pictures that he has personally put together with Gallery Manager, Lachlan Henderson.
The audience was captivated as Philip described the development of and importance of Australian Women’s Art practice in Australia. With his intimate knowledge and understanding of the works on display, he also shared some interesting and entertaining insights.
Prominent Queensland and long-standing member, Rhonda White AO then shared her involvement in the arts in Australia, as board member of the National Gallery in Canberra. She informed us of the Gallery’s latest exhibitions, in particular ‘The Royal Experience’ Cartier jewellery exhibition, which is sure to be stunning. All members have been encouraged to attend.
WCEI makes it a priority to celebrate the achievements of its members. Valued long-term WCEI member and Fashion Designer, Keri Craig Lee, generously donated a copy of her new publication “Keri Craig – The Label, The Lady and The Lifestyle”, as a lucky door prize. We took the opportunity to congratulate Keri on her recent award of an Order of Australia Medal for her invaluable contribution to Australia’s fashion industry.
Chrissie Moore, guest of Chiou See Anderson, Managing Director of Elements Retirement Living, won Keri’s beautiful book on the night.
While experiencing the exhibition, WCEI members and guests connected over French champagne and wines and savoured canapés from leading Brisbane chef, PJ McMillan from Harveys.
Following the recent celebration of International Women’s Day, it seemed so fitting that this Gallery event provided an opportunity for some of Queensland’s most accomplished women, to come together to appreciate each other’s talents and those of the Australian women artists.
Thank you to all who attended and we look forward to seeing you at the next event.
