As a lawyer and governance expert with over 30 years’ experience, Fiona Shand has advised and represented commercial clients, directors and professionals in private practice, government and industry during her career in Australia, Switzerland and Hong Kong. Her clients range from start-up’s, SME’s, member-based organisations, unlisted public companies, emerging IPO’s through to established listed enterprises at all stages of transition plus State and federal government entities, individual directors and professionals.
Fiona’s governance company, The Walton Group, provides governance practice and process advice and conducts board skills and performance reviews to government, industry, public and private entities operating in both the profit and not-for-profit (social gain) spheres.
Drawing upon her professional experiences including as a lawyer and company director, Fiona and her team have developed an unparalleled board skills and performance survey tool tailored to each organisation and its needs which produces a report to provide board and management with succinct, specific and essential insights into individual and team dynamics essential for effective governance and succession planning.
Since 2006 Fiona has facilitated the flagship Company Directors Course for the Australian Institute of Company Director, is a guest lecturer on governance for a diverse range of entities.
Recognising the essential importance of managerial development and support Fiona is also a coach and mentor of directors and executive suite professionals both privately and through Behind Closed Doors.
Fiona has been Independent Chair and Independent Chair of Audit & Risk within the ANZ Banking Group and is currently Independent Chair of a neobank start-up.
