WCEI TAS – Heather Chong’s Journey from Psychology to Apricots
November 24, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Heather has had a fascinating career. Born in the UK, Heather did what she describes as the usual school bit, then a BSc in Psychology at Uni (what else do you do with A Levels in Maths, English and Economic and Public Affairs?) and then decided she didn’t like any of the jobs on offer so joined an accounting firm. She met her now husband Chris and moved to Hong Kong to work, then Singapore, managing to successfully produce two children on the way. Shortly after, Heather decided she had too few challenges in her life, so she and Chris moved to Tasmania in 1999 and planted 48,500 apricot trees which made their orchard one of the biggest in the southern hemisphere.
Heather has been recognised as a Rural Businesswoman for Tasmania and a winner of the Tasmanian Telstra Awards as the overall winner and has sat on boards in Singapore and Australia as well as a couple of GBEs. Heather is currently Deputy Mayor of Clarence Council and the District Governor Elect of Rotary Tasmania.
