The Game of Bridge – Why Millions of People Around the World Play It
June 3, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Bridge is the most popular card game in the world…it is easy to learn but hard to master. It’s played in almost every country and crosses all age and socio-economic boundaries. You play with a partner and because there are so many different possibilities, you will probably never see the same hand twice! The great thing about bridge is that you make friends for a lifetime, regardless of the level at which you play.
Joan Butts is a well-known bridge personality who has represented Australia and taught thousands of people to play. In 2011 she was appointed the Australian Bridge Federation’s National Teaching Coordinator. In this capacity she trains teachers, introducing them to the latest methods in Bridge Education and creating and running professional development programs.
In 2017 Joan launched her Online School of Bridge, which offers a library of lessons based on a recommended curriculum, with videos, notes, quizzes and hand reviews. Members are able to play hands with robots and check hints about bidding, play and defence.
Joan now has members all around the world who log on to joanbuttsbridge.com to play interactive hands, including those from her bridge books.
In this event, we will hear about the story of bridge and why it captivates people all over the world. Joan will give us an introduction to the game and has generously offered four follow up lessons for WCEI members.
