BEING COMFORTABLE WITH ART – AN INTRODUCTION TO FINE ART – Hobart Event

Dear WCEI Members and Guests,
Leanne Wallace, a Tasmanian member, will introduce you and your guests to her life in the very practical employment and training sector and how a chance meeting with her partner Steven Joyce 16 years ago introduced her to the opposite “art world”. Yes – our feelings can change from “I’m not sure I’m comfortable here” to knowing this is just another fascinating Tasmanian industry sector.
Leanne will introduce Steven who has been running Despard Gallery for thirty one years, during that time he has organised over three hundred exhibitions mounted with a wide variety of artists and mediums in Hobart, Melbourne, Chicago, Sydney and New York seen and has seen Tasmanian artists represented to an incredibly diverse range of people- experts- enthusiastic collectors to “I don’t know what it is but I like it……”
The concept of the evening is to have an informal discussion with anecdotal tales of the unexpected coupled with the satisfaction of launching a young artist on to the national stage.
Steven will be able to take the perceived elitism from the art world to enable everyone who may not always feel comfortable when asked “what do you think of that painting” to be at home in a gallery.
